My work examines how identity is shaped by history, geography, and personal memory. As a diaspora artist, I paint to reconnect with a feeling of home and belonging that migration has made difficult to hold onto.

I work primarily in oil paint and gold leaf, borrowing techniques from the Old Masters to give contemporary Black subjects and ideas the same permanence historically reserved for European stories. My art draws from personal stories and collective history, linking my own experience to a longer lineage of ancestry. Underlying this practice is a set of questions I return to repeatedly: what does it mean to build a life across borders, to love and to keep a family together when immigration status can dictate the terms of both? My family's history of displacement runs through this work, and painting has become the way I process it.
